What do you think, why did I crash? First time riding the Nürburgring GP track since 2016 with my street bike. Video is from first session after 3 laps in total. I was just riding easy and learning the course, trying different points, lines and gears without fighting too much with other riders when suddenly the front tire slided.
I am not sure why this happened. Tarmac temperature was about 17 °C, tire were used for 12 sessions, pressure was fine and I think my pace was fast enough to keep the front tire warm on both sides.
As you can hear from the engine, there were three small throttle transitions right before the crash. The first two were a little bit rough, but not the reason for the crash. The third one was smooth and should not unloaded the front suspension too much. Lean angle was 50° - 52°, which is no problem for this great front tire.
After the crash I found a piece of curb stuck on the left side of the front tire. The bike didn't slide over curbs, so I am wondering where it came from. Maybe it layed on the track, the front tire took it from the ground and liftet the tire when hitting the left side?
My left hand got bruised and the trackday was over after 15 minutes of riding. Luckily my Gimoto airbag safed me from worse :) The bike and my hand should be fine until next Wednesday for two days of riding at the Sachsenring :) Cheers!
